Lots of proprietary third-party software can be licensed in many different ways. I would say the most common approaches can be one of four:
Pass a license key via parameter
Pass a file path to a license file via parameter
Copy a license file to somewhere on disk
Set some registry value(s) in HKLM or HKCU
It would be ideal if Patch My PC had documentation and/or features in order to show customers how to license software in its catalogue.
For example, if several products share a common means of licensing (e.g. via parameter) then there could be a right-click option "Apply license" which creates a wizard to enter license information.
Either in addition to, or as an interim measure, it would be ideal if Patch My PC compliments vendor documentation by guiding customers on how to apply licenses using one of the many customisation options available in Patch My PC Publisher. This would provide customers with a quick step by step on how to achieve licensing for specific products using Patch My PC.
is this now on the road map ?
I would love this
