The ability to sync only a specific add/update would be a nice feature.
PMPC has a lot of excellent automation features that is initiated from a sync..
This does present a challenge for those with set standard release schedules(aka monthly). If a critical update needs to be deployed "out of band", this requires a sync, which then picks up all new updates for all products enabled and starts all the automated processes resulting in additional out of schedule updates.
Same situation if we want to enable and test a new product.
It would be nice to be able to sync only a specific product. This would allow us to use more of your built in automation.
Perfect!
Big thank you to the PMPC team for implementing this feature.
We dont normally run the Preview build of the Publisher tool, but changed so we could test out this feature, and it works well.
Thanks for adding the GUI pop-up that lists the Apps/Updates included in the Selective Sync - from reading the earlier comments I thought we would have to rely on the log file only to see this.
My only suggestion is to consider a small cosmetic change to the Manual Sync button (perhaps change its colour?) when selective sync is active.
This would avoid accidentally syncing the entire catalog (some customers have strict Patching schedules for Test / Pilot / Production rollouts) if you thought you had selected and app but hadnt, and you dont know until you click the Sync button and dont see the pop-up.
We've made some good progress on this :)
You will be able to right-click on a product or vendor (not all vendors/root, though), and select 'Publish this product during the next sync. (Selective sync)'. You can do this for any number of products.
The next time you do a manual sync, we will only sync the selected products. The intent is for this to be obvious in the log and to have it be clear in the notifications that a sync of only a specific subset of products is happening.
A scheduled sync would always be a full sync and would reset any 'sync now' flags.
Worth noting this does not do anything special such as 'force' something to publish. A normal sync will happen, and only process the selected subset of products. If no change is needed still, no action will be taken during the sync.
Does this implementation make sense to fulfill the feature?
When needed to sync one of our 75+ selected products to update, it is mostly up to 3 that need to be ran. I could see using the right click option to 'sync now' for a single selection or for a product group that is selected for a normal sync cycle.
that would be absolutely an awesome feature!!! to have the option to sync/publish manually an individual update, for Out of band patching. Please implement it fast!!! Thnaks!
Having a custom sync or Delta option vs always having to run a Full sync, would be nice. How many times after running a full sync and getting the notification that you need to manually download an app or update, or one that needs to be republished, that you wish you could select a custom sync option then either select those apps and updates that needed a manual download or republished, or just select a Delta sync option.
3½ years and nothing ? :)
Well a 'delta sync' posibility or even just a powershell command to publish a named application would do the trick.
its not like any of us need this feature on a daily basis.
So its ok, if its just not done by pressing a button.
This would be excellent to have for being able to publish only a single update or adding a new product to the update catalog without having to worry if out of band updates will start deploying on machines outside of our normal patch cycle
+1 for this - we Sync weekly with a 3 stage Rollout to Test/Pilot/Prod on Monday/Wednesday/Friday.
If we need to package a new app, on a Tuesday, we dont want to have to wait almost a week for next Mondays sync for it to appear.
Adding a "Sync this app" right-click option would be great.
Sure we may need to do it twice for the App and the Update, but thats OK - beats syncing the whole catalog and introducing lots of new apps outside of normal frequency.
I run updates on a monthly schedule, so that users is not experiencing everything is updating all the time.
Often I need to update a single app, because of errors or security.
so this idea would be much appreciated!
This is something that would be super helpful for me! When testing new deployments and policies for a specific app it would allow me to test w/o waiting for our sync schedule. I could manually sync everything but want to avoid potentially causing problems for our users with other applications.
Since we are running the sycn only once in Month for all the patch, so some we are missing update after sync cycle is over and we have wait for the month to wait for the sync to run again. Can we have possibility to run the sync for one particular software so that we can get the update if we missing during sync cycle.
This is very needed. There's been several times where an app I deploy with PMPC received a critical patch or update and I needed to get it out to my devices quickly. Having to sync my entire library and get other unwanted updates is not ideal. My InfoSec team wants 3rd party apps pushed on a schedule where possible.
I'd say being able to right click and sync now would be sufficient for most needs and make things a LOT easier.
This would be a wonderful addition.
*Selective sync would let me update a particular app that's not in the ESP without risking taking out existing AP deployments
Yeah - where this really impacts a customer is if you use Intune App Publishing combined with Autopilot + ESP required apps and need to resync during business hours. Any autopilot deployments with that ESP profile cached at deployment time is going to reference the old appID if theres a new app published to Intune and fail the Autopilot deployment.
Or at least.. let us sync updates that are related to a zero day?
I would think a right click context option... "Sync this now " would be sufficient.
Multi-select imo would be less important. Cases of selected sync at least for us is generally limited to 1-2 products at a time.
Thanks for the feedback. This would probably be a pretty significant change from an engineering side, but we will keep monitoring this idea.
How would you suggest setting the products you want to enable during a sync?
