Autodesk Desktop Connector is constantly being update on a monthly bases.   Is it possible to have this added to 3rd Party Updates, it uses an exe build

AMAZING! Well after waiting this long I am thankful it is finally part of PMPC.

However, this led to issues for our users with failed updates for those on older versions of Desktop Connector.
    1. It seems like mainly the older versions were uninstalled and then the newest update never actually installed, resulting in installation failure.
    2. Another error was "A windows service required by Autodesk Desktop Connector did not start in the expected amount of time. Do you want to manually start the service?" this leads to an admin elevation which our end users do not have...
    3. It prompts stating Desktop Connector folder needs to be cleared from a previous install/instance.

I feel like the deployment I did myself previously with the silent flag went more smoothly. Any tips here for the best update settings or best practices for Desktop Connector in PMPC??

Good News! Autodesk Desktop Connector has been added to the catalog as of today - https://patchmypc.com/catalog-release-history/2026-releases/

Zip support was added, but extracting EXEs was not. https://ideas.patchmypc.com/ideas/PATCHMYPC-I-1463 was marked as shipped when the request was not fully implemented... I'll raise that we still need to address EXE extraction as a follow-on from that.

In the meantime, I'm not aware anything has changed on the Autodesk side to enable us to support this today. I suggest that anyone who upvoted this also complain to Autodesk - then they might be able to make the app easier to deploy for everyone, not just us.

We are now nearly at Q2 2026 and still no updates on this?? What is the point of Patch My PC if I have to manually update and deploy custom applications like this....? I could just do the same directly in Intune already for free.

In a previous Idea it was mentioned this exe extraction issue would be resolved in Q3 2025: https://ideas.patchmypc.com/ideas/PATCHMYPC-I-1463

I’ve been migrating all our applications from Scappman over the past few months. The number of applications you can’t or won’t support is frustrating. Especially reading explanations like the ones above does not make me a happy customer, given that you recently acquired a product that is capable of doing this, and at the same time forced us to move away from it.

    Hey Team,
I thought extractable .exes were supported? See below

Any update on this one? We have a lot of users that would like to use this across multiple sites.

without the reg key provided by Autodesk It tries to auto update and our users dont have elevated rights to perform the update.

Please reconsider to add Desktop Connector. We used Scappmann (where it's in the catalog) and are now migrated to PatchMyPC, but we notice that this isn't in the catalog. All our clients are using this program...

I see the last reply from a PMPC admin was over a year ago. I really appreciate the updates and information in this thread. Has it been looked at recently? This is by far the application my technicians most ask me about to check of PMPC supports it.

Can Autodesk Desktop Connector be added to the PMPC catalogue? Seems like enough people are requesting this and we have an urgent requirement.

This would be rather handy to have in the PMPC catalog. It tries to auto update and our users dont have elevated rights to perform the update.

Dan, we managed this internally by wrapping the Desktop Connector installer inside a PSADT script where we able to use 7z to extract the EXE from Autodesk into Files and then the subsequent archive (Autodesk_Desktop_Connector_002_002.7z) that is inside the archive into Files.

Once we expanded both archives into Files we were able to execute setup.exe -i install --offlinemode -q.

PMPC recommends creating a custom app, which we've attempted without success so far. Has anyone been able to successfully create and deploy a custom app in the meantime? We're currently trying that approach but running into some issues.

The -q switch does indeed install silently now, however there are still challenges with this app:

    - It extracts 1.6GB of installation media to C:\Autodesk and does not clean up after itself.

    - DesktopConnector-x64.exe exits after it has extracted and run the contained Setup.exe installer, so we would need to wait for child processes to complete before exiting to avoid a failure from the detection script.

We are currently building support for .zip archives, if self-extracting 7z/Zip exes could be handled in the same way, that may be the best solution for this particular product.

I would also like request that Desktop Connector be added. We currently deploy this via sccm using the -q switch so it should be possible. Autodesk is putting more emphasis on updating this software since it works in conjunction with Autodesk Construction Cloud (their cloud storage solution). Also if it gives you any more motivation, AutoMox says that they support auto-updating it!

Desktop Connector 17.1.0.16 can create a custom install

Merged
We can now create Desktop Connector 17.1.0.16 custom installs from our Autodesk account exactly like any other Autodesk app. This will create a deployment install including the collection.xml and installer.exe file. Maybe Patch My PC can use this ...

Adding update support for Autodesk Desktop Connector

Merged
Every 2 or 3 months there is a new version for Autodesk desktop connector. It would be far easier to update this, then always create a new SCCM package and deploy it to everyone.
