Allow custom ICO file instead of only PNG, JPG and BMP and maintain the size of the image

We use the original ico file for all our applications (32x32 or 48x48 pixels). The auto created applications using PmPC use the large full blown icons but this does not look nice in the software center.

Currently I have created a PNG of the original ico file and this is working like expected when adding the png manually to the application. When PmPC is adding the same custom png, the icon is showed in the software center as 256x256 pixels. So I can't change the icon like expected
