Add Updates for commercial products as ConfigMgr Standalone Apps (not base installation)

It would be graeat to have the possibility to add the Updates for products like Adobe Acrobat DC etc as standalone apps.

This could be usefull in a Co-Mgmgt Scenario with Application Workload on ConfigMgr and Updates Workload on WUfB.

Currently we would still need to leverage an on-prem WSUS and implement Dual Scan to achieve updates for these products.

To be clear, I'm not talking about adding a base installation, but adding the updates as standalone apps.

Our recommendation would be to either use the Intune updates, or to use the dual-scan scenario.

Maintaining requirement rules for these would be a complicated implementation that does not offer much advantage to existing alternatives.

    Hi Cody

Sure. The following products are currently only available in the Updates and the Intune Updates tab of Intune.

    Adobe Acrobat 2015 Classic

    Adobe Acrobat 2017 Classic

    Adobe Acrobat 2020 Classic

    Adobe Acrobat DC Continuous

    Adobe Digital Editions

    Autodesk Design Review

    GanttProject

    Kofax Power PDF 4 Advanced

Generally this makes perfect sense as these are commercial products for which you can not provide a base installation due to licensing limitations.

If you use WSUS/SUP with ConfigMgr or if you move application workloads to Intune this is not a problem as you can then use the Update tabs in PatchMyPC and deliver the updates.

In a Co-Management scenario where you leave the Application Workload with ConfigMgr but do not use WSUS/SUP anymore for updates (Windows Update Workload moved to WUfB) we use the updated base installations to update applications. It would be great if PatchMyPC could create ConfigMgr Applications for these products which would only update clients on which this products are currently installed.

I hope this sheds some light on my request. Let me know if I you need more information on it.

    Best regards,

    Tobias

Can we get a bit more context on this?

We have some ideas on adding custom requirement scripts, but it would be pretty complex and involve creating new global conditions for each application, and application version.
