Application creation: applications without version numbers
Since the meta data field with version is already being used it would make sense to create applications without the version number in it to avoid confusion when content is updated.
Marking as shipped, this is available in the latest internal preview, and it will be available in build 1.4.0 along with the new application management feature in the coming weeks.
Ah I see, that context about application name mapping in MDT is helpful and provides the context we need on why this feature is important. It's too bad MDT doesn't map to the application UniqueID. We will look at making this an option. We will evaluate this feature request prior to public release.
If implemented, we would probably make it an optional checkbox in the application options form that says, "Do not include the version in the application name."
Yes, if possible removing the verion number in the application name on the admin side as an option. For several of the organizations I work with changing the app name every time there is an update will break integration with the MDT database for OSD.
Applications will have the version removed in the (Application Catalog) tab, so that it's not duplicated in software center with the version field.
We do display it from an administrator perspective in the Name field in the application. For two reasons mainly:
Software version isn't a default column enabled in the console so it may be helpful on the admin/console side.
Application names need to be unique, so it would be more likely be may come across issues where an application name may be in use without the version included in the Name.
Are you wanting the version to be removed from the actual application name on the administrative console side?
