Microsoft has built a new version of Edge based on Chromium, which supports IE Enterprise mode via the Enterprise mode site list. With this being the potential "Single Browser Solution" I think every enterprise supporting legacy web based apps has been searching for for years, many enterprises will likely replace Google Chrome in their environments with this as it gives them a Microsoft version of the Chrome browser, with IE mode running natively in the same browser.
The Edge Preview uses a Microsoft version of the Google Updater, and updates the same way, and GPO set is very similar (except it has Microsoft Account stuff in place of Google Accounts).
Can we add patching to PMP for at least the BETA version of the Edge Preview? Canary and Dev channels would be nice to have's in addition, but the Beta channel is likely all that's needed.
We went ahead and shipped it as both an application and software update.
I'm not sure air gaped would make a big difference here? You would still need to run a WSUSUtil import/export to get the third-party updates imported from our product just like Microsoft updates would have to?
Once again, for air gap networks this won't work. Unless I'm mistaken and Edge updates will actually be included in WSUS? This is why having PMPC providing the updates that can be added to WSUS would be perfect for us.
What would you all think about us releasing Edge as an application for SCCM/Intune only and not as a software update?
We expect the software update feature native to SCCM should be pretty automated: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/apps/deploy-use/deploy-edge#update-microsoft-edge-version-77-and-later, but it seems the application creation will always be manual to update previously created applications https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/apps/deploy-use/deploy-edge#create-a-deployment
We may review this again when the stable build is released since the initial look at the ConfigMgr integration doesn't look to be fully automated. We would only add the stable channel though.
Would it be possible to revive this? We would like to be able to regularly update Edge Stable on air gap networks.
Marking as NO GO due to the fact Microsoft seems to be adding Microsoft Edge installs and patching into the console. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1910
I don't think this will be needed due to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1910
I use the preview browser on all 8 of my Windows computers
