Hi, any news on this? Both Basic Auth and SMTP Auth were now fully disabled, no longer allowing sending mail via an Exchange Online mailbox without a relay.
This is needed for the Alerts (SMTP settings) where the service sends mails to users you specify. Because you need to use Authenticated SMTP in Office 365, basic authentication is currently used to send the email. Check out this blog post for more information about the deprecation of basic authentication in Exchange Online: https://365bythijs.be/2019/10/23/basic-authentication-is-being-deprecated-help/
SMTP Basic Authentication in Exchange Online will be disabled in September 2025 and the use is discouraged. It would be great to be able to use OAuth!
this is needed for patchmypc smtp notifications. it is the only way we can receive notifications through Office 365
