Add Browser-Based Console Extension / Right-Click Actions for Intune with Advanced Insights Integration

This request was added internally by Justin at Patch My PC, based on conversations and feedback from customers, including some great input during our demo at Workplace Ninja '24. A bunch of folks were excited about the right-click extensions we showed at the Workplace Ninja event for Microsoft Intune (early internal build).

In ConfigMgr, the ability to right-click a device, collection, or update and jump straight into Advanced Insights is a huge time saver. It gives admins fast access to insights without needing to switch tools or dig through menus. We'd love to bring that same experience to Intune.

The ask is for a browser-based extension or some kind of built-in option in the Intune portal that lets you click into Advanced Insights directly from a device or object view. This will be especially helpful with Advanced Insights for Intune being close to private preview.

This would:

  • Make it easier for admins to move between Intune and Advanced Insights (For ConfigMgr or Intune)

  • Bring data and insights into their regular workflow

  • Cut down on context switching and speed up troubleshooting

Even something lightweight, like contextual links or action buttons, would go a long way.

    Cross-Platform Remote Helpdesk Right-Click Actions

    Summary

    I would like to suggest a cross-platform right-click tools / remote helpdesk action framework for Patch My PC Advanced Insights, ConfigMgr, and Intune.

    The idea is to make PMPC a central daily helpdesk workspace where admins can:

    • View device, user, update, and software context

    • Launch remote support tools

    • Trigger Intune or ConfigMgr actions

    • Run approved scripts or remediations

    • Open native consoles or admin portals

    • Use custom customer-defined actions

    • Enforce RBAC, approvals, and auditing

    Ideally this would be delivered through a single Microsoft Edge extension for Windows and macOS, optionally backed by a native helper / native messaging host. The extension would expose different actions depending on:

    • Admin workstation OS

    • Target device OS

    • Installed local tools

    • Available backends

    • User permissions

    • Customer configuration

    • Risk level of the action

    This would extend the existing PMPC pattern of contextual “View in Advanced Insights” integration and turn it into a broader helpdesk action framework.


    Core Concept

    PMPC could provide a context-aware right-click menu on:

    • Devices

    • Users

    • Groups

    • ConfigMgr collections

    • Updates

    • Software objects

    The menu should be:

    • Object-aware — device, user, group, collection, update, software

    • OS-aware — Windows actions on Windows admin devices, macOS actions on Mac admin devices

    • Capability-aware — only show actions if required tools/backends are available

    • Role-aware — hide or approval-gate sensitive actions

    • Audited — record who ran what, against which object, when, and with what result

    • Extensible — allow customers to define approved custom actions

    • RBAC enforcement

    • Dry-run where possible

    • Full audit history

    This is especially important for actions such as:

    • Restart

    • Wipe

    • Retire/delete

    • BitLocker/FileVault recovery key access

    • LAPS password viewing

    • LAPS rotation

    • MBR2GPT conversion

    • Account disablement

    • License assignment/removal

    • Elevation approval

    • Confirmation requirements

    • Approval requirement

    • Audit classification

    • Risk level

    This would make PMPC much more useful as a daily helpdesk workspace and would reduce the need for admins to constantly jump between:

    • ConfigMgr Console

    • Entra Admin Center

    • Windows Admin Center

    • Native MMC consoles

    • Remote support tools

    • PowerShell scripts

    • Third-party utilities

    Overall, this could turn PMPC into a central operational console for endpoint support, remediation, and compliance-driven helpdesk work.

    I'd like to see something like this built for scraping devices from Service Now as well. We use SN for tracking tickets and incidents, and it would help with our first line service desk to be able to get specific Hardware and Software Information about these devices as well as being bale to run actions, notify and remote control directly from the incident notification.
