We’d like the ability to configure custom detection logic for Patch My PC catalogue applications when deploying via Patch My PC Cloud (not for custom apps).
Why this matters
Detection rules: Intune currently only allows a single detection type per app, which limits flexibility. Allowing customers to supply a PowerShell snippet that is appended to the Patch My PC detection script would let us layer in extra checks - e.g., looking for specific registry keys or files (such as VPN profiles) - in addition to the standard PMPC software/version detection. This snippet should persist across future versions of the app.
Future compatibility: If Patch My PC later supports native Intune detection rules and moves away from PowerShell, please continue to provide a way for customers to add complementary detection logic alongside the built-in detection.
Benefits
More precise detection in real-world environments
Ability to align app deployments with device-specific customisations
Consistency across updates without manual re-work
It is unlikely this will be implemented, as we want to safeguard customers by using working detection rules.
We might revisit this in the future depending on customer demand and the scenarios to solve.
A way to solve the challenge described in this idea would be to leverage Custom Apps.
Create a custom app with a custom detection rule for the additional functionality you're looking to implement - e.g a custom script that sets VPN profiles.
Deploy the app available in the PMPC Catalog (e.g. Cisco AnyConnect)
Deploy the Custom App with the custom PS Script + its associated Custom Detection Rule
Configure it to have a dependency rule on the PMPC deployed app.
If you require more control of an app installing if certain registry keys exist, the Cloud Portal now supports the management of additional Requirement Rules.
Please add detection rules similar to those available for the custom app.
I wonder, if perhaps not appending to the detection script itself, allowing us to configure any "additional requirement rules" from the publisher to use in Intune: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/intune-service/apps/apps-win32-add#step-3-requirements
