Patch My PC is addressing the issue of end users not knowing when an installation has completed after closing conflicting processes by introducing a success notification.
This request focuses on scenarios where customers would still benefit from a progress bar or in-progress status indicator, giving users visibility into installation progress before completion.
This would be a massive usability upgrade. Non-tech savvy users in our org frequently panic when they don't see a particular application on their desktop during an installation, and restart their computer. This interrupts the installation causing a failure and loss of access to the app.
Please also note that there were 80-ish votes on the previous idea before it was merged!
Hi. I just wanted to chime in with something I've experienced.
I know it's possible to show a progress bar using a pre-installation script and PSADT cmndlets. However, this is a rigid "either show the progress bar or don't" option without the kind of nuance I'd like to see. The situation I'm put in is that if I show progress bars for updates, but they weren't going to use a blocked application anyway, then they're bothered by the pop-up. If they're trying to use the application, but they're blocked, then they're annoyed because they don't know when they'll be able to use the program again and have to just keep trying.
In my ideal world, I'd have the option for a conditional progress dialog box. The logic would go like this: when the update starts, don't show the progress dialog box so that they're not bothered. However, if a user attempts to launch the program that's being blocked, then at that point open the progress dialog box so that they know when they'll be able to use the program again. It might even be nice to be able to configure it to prompt the user. I'm no artist, but something like the attached image.
