Problem
The current Advanced Insights Update reporting provides visibility into available updates and deployment status, but it does not sufficiently account for intentional deployment delays configured through Microsoft Intune Update Rings or phased deployment strategies. This can make compliance reporting less accurate and generate noise by highlighting updates that are not yet expected to be installed.
Proposed Enhancement
Add advanced filtering capabilities to the Updates section that allow administrators to:
Configure a custom grace period (for example 7, 14, 30, or 60 days) before an update is considered missing or non-compliant.
Automatically respect and inherit deployment timelines defined by Intune Update Rings.
Filter results based on update ring assignments.
Exclude devices that are still within their approved deployment window.
Differentiate between:
Updates not yet targeted
Updates targeted but within deployment grace period
Updates overdue according to update ring policy
Create reports and dashboards based on update ring compliance rather than immediate update availability.
Benefits
More accurate compliance reporting.
Reduced false-positive findings.
Better alignment with enterprise patch management practices and phased rollouts.
Improved visibility into genuinely overdue updates requiring remediation.
Easier reporting for organizations using multiple deployment rings (Pilot, Early Adopters, Production, etc.).
Example
If an application update is released on September 1st and the Production Update Ring has a 30-day deployment delay, devices assigned to that ring should not be reported as non-compliant until October 1st. Advanced Insights should automatically consider this configuration when calculating compliance metrics.
Business Value
Large enterprises commonly use staged deployment rings to reduce operational risk. Reporting that understands and respects these deployment timelines provides a significantly more meaningful view of update compliance and remediation priorities
