Windows App

Since this week the Windows App is released as .msix file https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-app/overview.

This makes it possible to update the Windows App by using update rings. Herefore it would be great if it is added to Patch My PC Supported Products.

      Hey PMPC Team,

      I understand that the Remote Desktop client in the catalogue is currently the MSI variant. However, it seems that Microsoft is increasingly pushing customers toward the new Windows App, which likely signals the eventual deprecation of the Remote Desktop client.

      Given this, having the Windows App included in the catalog would be beneficial for customers like us who have already migrated and updated our user-facing documentation. As it stands, we'll need to publish the app manually.

      Want to echo the need for this. We currently use the Remote Desktop App packaged by PMPC and it's great.

      As of 2025-03-01, this now became mandatory. Here is a snippet from a communication sent to us by Microsoft:

      ```
      COMMUNICATION:
      Impact Statement: Starting 27 May 2025, the Remote Desktop app for Windows from the Microsoft Store will no longer be available for download, installation, or support. This notice is for IT administrators with users connecting to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) using the Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store.
      Required Action: To avoid issues with accessing your Azure Virtual Desktop resources, users must take action as connections to Azure Virtual Desktop via the Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store will be blocked after May 27, 2025.
      • AVD users currently using the Remote Desktop App for Windows from the Microsoft Store must migrate to the Windows App for Windows.
      • Users should download, install, and log in to Windows App for Windows before May 27, 2025, to maintain uninterrupted access.
      • We recommend migrating users as soon as possible, ideally before the Remote Desktop app reaches end of support.
      While no immediate action is required for IT admins, it's essential to notify users and ensure they install Windows App for Windows to continue accessing remote resources
      ```

      Windows App (worst name ever by the way) would be a great addition for us and I dare say any other that lock down MS store.

    Request new App "Windows App"

    Can you please provide the "Windows App" App for our SCCM environment? Microsoft has discontinued the Remote Desktop App and replaced it with the "Windows App", which is only available in the Microsoft Store.
