Copy Assignments from Intune Apps to Intune Updates for same Application

If you assign like 5-10 Group to one app and have 15+ Apps being published over Intune, it would be really grate if i could copy the Assignments from Intune Apps to Intune Updates. Would be Really Time Saving.

    Hi Adam,

Intune updates are therefore only required when an Intune app is distributed with the assignment "Available for enrolled devices". To ensure that this is also updated?

    Hey Marlon,

Thanks for raising this. It's interesting because we had a discussion internally on the same idea earlier in the year.

Our thinking is that if you're deploying an Intune App as required to Group A, you do not need to deploy the Intune Update of the same software as required to Group A - this is because our Intune App packages still updates software in the exact same way as Intune Update packages do. It seems wasteful to effectively deploy two Win32 packages as required to the same device, for the same software.

In some scenarios, deploying both the Intune App and Intune Update can lead to a poor user experience, too, especially if you have Manage conflicting processes configured to pop-up a notification to the user.

An example: the Intune App attempts to install on a device and produces the notification asking the user to close or snooze the install, and the user chooses to snooze it. However, minutes later, the Intune Update attempts to install on a device and again produces the notification - this will cause confusion and frustration for most users as they'll feel they just dealt with that notification minutes prior. Intune isn't aware that these two Win32 packages are for the same software; they are independently two different Win32 packages so Intune processes normally.

It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on this. Let us know!
